Understanding and Addressing LGBTQIA+ Gendered Violence in Workplaces

Workplace Risk & Response Training

Gendered violence in the workplace doesn’t always look obvious - and for LGBTQIA+ people, it is often experienced through ongoing micro-aggressions, exclusion, and systemic gaps that go unaddressed.

This evidence-informed workshop supports organisations to better understand, prevent and respond to gendered violence affecting LGBTQIA+ workers - particularly women, trans and gender diverse people.

Grounded in the Being Valued Toolkit developed with WorkSafe Victoria, this session brings together lived experience, co-design with LGBTQIA+ Victorians who have experienced gendered violence at work, research and legal context to help organisations move from awareness to meaningful action.

Duration: 2–3 hours
Best for: Leaders, HR teams, people managers, WHS professionals, councils and service providers responsible for creating safe and compliant workplaces.

What you will gain:

  • A deeper understanding of how gendered violence uniquely impacts LGBTQIA+ workers

  • Increased confidence to identify and address less visible forms of harm

  • Practical tools to strengthen reporting, response and prevention systems

  • Clear guidance on organisational responsibilities and risk management

What we explore

  • How gendered violence shows up in LGBTQIA+ workplace contexts - including subtle and systemic forms

  • How to recognise microaggressions and patterns of harm that often go unchecked

  • Why LGBTQIA+ gendered violence is underreported - and how to build safer, more trusted reporting pathways

  • How to identify structural risk factors across policies, culture and workplace systems

  • How to respond effectively to incidents and disclosures, including supporting LGBTQIA+ staff with care and confidence

  • Practical strategies to prevent harm and meet legal obligations under workplace safety frameworks

Available online or in-person.

Preventing LGBTQIA+ Gendered Violence in Workplaces

Policy, Culture & Systems Change

Many organisations want to be inclusive - but aren’t always sure how to embed that commitment into everyday practice.

This workshop supports you to move beyond intention and into meaningful, sustainable change.

Together, we explore how LGBTQIA+ inclusion can be embedded across your policies, leadership, recruitment, service delivery and workplace culture - in ways that are practical, relevant and aligned with your organisational context.

Grounded in lived experience, co-design and evidence (including insights from the Being Valued research), this session translates inclusion into clear, actionable steps your team can implement straight away.

Duration: 2–3 hours
Best for: Executive teams, senior leaders, HR professionals, inclusion leads, and government or community organisations ready to deepen their impact.

What you’ll gain

  • A clear understanding of where your organisation is currently at - and where the gaps are

  • Practical strategies to strengthen policies, systems and day-to-day practices

  • Confidence to lead inclusion in a way that is thoughtful, trauma-informed and effective

  • A roadmap of next steps to support long-term cultural change

What we explore

  • What LGBTQIA+ people actually need from workplaces to feel safe, valued and able to thrive

  • Key insights from Victorian data on workplace gendered violence and inclusion

  • What makes a strong, effective LGBTQIA+ inclusion policy

  • How to design policies and procedures that translate into real-world practice

  • How workplace structures - including pride groups, leave policies and leadership behaviours - can improve safety, wellbeing, teamwork, creativity and retention
